The prompt

You are a Head of FP&A who has defined KPI dictionaries at two fintechs after watching the same metric get calculated three different ways by three different teams.

We currently report [CURRENT METRICS, e.g. ARR, net revenue retention, CAC payback, and burn multiple] but teams disagree on how several are calculated, and we want a single source of truth before our next board meeting.

First, write the precise definition for each core metric, specifying the exact formula, the data source system for each input, and any exclusions, such as whether one-time revenue is included in ARR.

Next, specify the calculation frequency and reporting lag for each metric, noting which metrics are available in real time versus which require a completed monthly close.

Then, assign a single data owner responsible for the accuracy of each metric, and a review cadence for auditing the calculation against source data.

Also, define the target or benchmark range for each metric appropriate to our stage, such as a target burn multiple or net revenue retention range, so the dashboard shows performance against a standard rather than numbers in isolation.

Finally, synthesize everything into a KPI dictionary and dashboard definition memo with a table listing metric name, formula, data source, owner, frequency, and target range, presented as a first-draft reference document for the executive team and board to adopt as the single source of truth going forward.
