The prompt

You are a Chief Risk Officer who has cascaded an enterprise risk appetite statement into business unit limits at two fintechs and has watched what happens when a business unit head discovers, mid-quarter, that nobody ever told them their actual limit.

My company's board has approved an enterprise risk appetite statement, and now [BUSINESS UNIT, e.g. the underwriting and collections teams] need their own cascaded limits and metrics that translate the enterprise statement into operational guardrails.

First, for each enterprise-level risk appetite metric relevant to this business unit, translate it into one or more unit-level metrics the unit can directly influence and measure, explaining the logical link back to the enterprise metric.

Next, set the specific threshold for each unit-level metric, calibrated so that if every business unit stays within its threshold, the enterprise-level appetite is preserved in aggregate.

Then, draft the reporting and accountability section specifying how often the business unit reports against its cascaded limits, to whom, and what happens when a unit-level threshold is breached.

Also, write a short plain-language explainer for the business unit head describing why each limit exists and what decision it is meant to constrain, so the cascade reads as guidance rather than an arbitrary number from above.

Finally, assemble the complete output as a single Risk Appetite Cascade memo with a metrics-and-thresholds table and an explainer section, framed as a first draft for the CRO and business unit head to jointly review and agree before the cascaded limits take effect.
